About the Curators:
Enrico Giordano was Associate Professor of Arts at the College of Mt. St. Vincent for forty-two years; ten of which he served as Chair of the Fine Arts Department. He is also a mixed media artist. In his careers as professor and artist he: co-created a major interdisciplinary program in Visual Art and Experimental Media (VAEM). Giordano received a five-year Annenberg Foundation grant thru which he created teacher training workshops for several schools in the NYC public school system, these workshops were based on ideas developed from his art. As a result of this project, one of the schools, PS7, received a NYC Arts School of Excellence designation. While on sabbatical in Istanbul, Giordano developed research and materials for a “large-scale” painting inspired by the Hagia Sophia. This work was integrated into his Core-curriculum lectures on Islamic art and architecture. As a widely traveled artist and educator, he has presented at conferences in Cusco, Peru; London, England; and Sienna, Italy. He also created participatory installations in Holland and, over a five- year period, in Denmark. As Senior Educator at the Brooklyn Museum he: worked in Haiti to create interpretive educational materials for the Museum’s Haitian art exhibit. He also co-curated the exhibition, Joint Forces: Artists, Community, and Museum. He worked alongside cultural historian Dr. Alix Schnee when she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to work with the Organization of Ancient Antiquities in Egypt. The objective was to design programs that would attract the Egyptian population to its museums and Pharaonic sites. As a direct result of this work the Organization of Ancient Antiquities was awarded a UNSECO grant to improve its exhibitions. Enrico co-founded Art on Main Street gallery (the precursor to Blue Door) in Yonkers and served on the board of Blue Door Art Center for several years. He is currently a member of the Upstream Gallery in Hastings on Hudson.
Michele Amaro is the Gallery Director and Assistant Executive Director of Blue Door Art Center since 2018. Michele has a degree from Philadelphia College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, in Industrial Design. She has worked in non-profit organizations for the last 15 years.
